Did you know that many people are struggling to apply for a job and not being accepted after months and years? The problem is common and straightforward. They are not even getting invited to an interview, but why?
I know people who had a thoughtful letter and his CV was also checked by an outplacement organization and found it good enough. Some people might think, it is the age factor or education level.
However, my conclusion was utterly different.
I had spoken with entirely different job seekers online and browsed through job seeker forums on the internet
The job seekers do not come up with the CV that they prepare without proper guidance or instructions. A resume should be a personal marketing document, but most of us are just not used to market ourselves.
What you need to understand is that a resume represents you when you are not there. If it effectively communicates the correct information, you may come for an interview. However, reality shows that most resumes do not say the right things, resulting in a lot of stress, disappointment, and despair.
However, I also have good news: it is probably not up to you that you are not invited. It depends on your resume nine out of ten times.
We have not met before, but I bet that your current CV does not honor your actual knowledge, skills and added value for the company you are applying to.
This is a bet that I dare to take because I see resumes almost every day with the same thing. Only very rarely does a job seeker come out well in his or her self-written resume.
You can do much more than your resume now shows! You are unique. You embody a combination of qualities, skills, and experiences that nobody else can provide. You are different from everyone else.
You have had an impact on employers with new ideas. You have improved processes, achieved higher customer satisfaction rates or have managed to reduce absence costs. Alternatively, maybe you are that creative person who always comes up with a solution that others have never thought about.
Possibly, you are the person whom everyone comes to when they have their hands in their hair because their computer has crashed again. Perhaps, you are the person your colleagues can always rely on when the weather is exceptionally hectic, and everyone runs around like a chicken.
If you know this kind of thing about yourself, it can feel very unreal if you don’t receive an invitation for a job interview.
Realize, however, that they do not reject you. They refuse the version of you that you have portrayed in your curriculum vitae.
The solution
For most job seekers, the curriculum vitae is the bottleneck in the process of being allowed to interview. If you don’t sell yourself well on paper, you can shake it.
Others who may be less suitable than you will pass you by. It is simply because they can sell themselves on paper. The applicant who best communicates his added value ultimately comes out as the winner.
